villarrica, chile, 2004

mike and i visited a national park while we were in chile on vacation. it was a foggy, misty day in april, and we were the only visitors in the park. a guide offered to show us some interesting spots, so we visited lava tubes as well as the forest area, and learned about the landscape from him.

i was surprised by my visit to chile. i didn’t know much about it, other than it was the gateway to easter island, so i didn’t have high hopes. however, it turned out that the locations we chose were very much about nature and the outdoors. we were able to visit beautiful parks, stunning waterfalls and snow-covered volcanoes, as well as swim in hot springs, rock climb, repel down a cliff, zip line through a forest, etc. and because we were there in april (when apparently no one else in the world goes to this part of chile) we were completely alone and had our own private guides, chefs, etc. we could not have asked for a more amazing place.
